As one of the fastest growing Colleges in Buckinghamshire and the South East, Milton Keynes College needed to a brand new website that would not only entice new students to joining the college, but also act as an invaluable online resource for current students and staff members.
They approached us as thanks to a track record of delivering a variety of successful projects (including the award-winning Reko Tao Zion guerrilla marketing campaign), they knew that we could deliver a one-stop service of designing, developing and maintaining a brand new website.
Their previous website was no longer fit for purpose and did not offer an enjoyable, or particularly clear, user journey or experience. This is something we looked to rectify in our design concepts which firmly placed emphasis on making the site as user-friendly and responsive as possible.
Using the artwork we had created for the prospectus as a basis to work on, our web developers and web designers set about design a site that, whilst expansive, would be easy to navigate and enjoyable to use. Because of the volume of content available on the site, the website design had to make finding things (such as course information, contact details and college documentation) as easy as possible. As experienced web developers in Milton Keynes, we know that if a user cannot find what they are looking for within the first 30-seconds of visiting the site, they will generally not stick around or return to the site again!
Once a design concept had been approved, our web developers began building the website – along with a bespoke CMS system and database integration that would allow visitors to not only browse courses, but also apply directly to the College. Our website developers also designed the site to be compatible with Milton Keynes College’s social media platforms (including Facebook and Twitter). This meant that MK College could engage with their core audiences like never before and, importantly, share events, news and important information with students quickly and effortlessly.
Finally, the site was also made to be responsive depending on the user environment – something that the old website design seriously lacked! This means that the site’s design automatically detects and adjusts to suit whatever browser / system / hardware it is being displayed on. This also included mobile device compatibility; so regardless of where you were viewing the site - either in the comfort of your own home on a mid-range desktop PC, to out and about on a mobile phone – you can still enjoy a full and rich user experience and, importantly, still gain access to key areas and features located throughout the website.
Milton Keynes College have been thrilled with the site and it went live in July 2014; forming the backbone of their drive for applications for the start of the 2014/15 term and beyond. It has also proven to be a milestone for us here at TFA; with the 200-page site being the most expansive and sophisticated site-build for us to-date. It is also one that we are immensely proud of and continue to nurture it’s development with ongoing maintenance and care.
